Networking with Caribbean hospitality sector at CHRIS
Last month Sarah New and I were in Miami for the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS). This annual event provides a fantastic networking opportunity for investors, hotel & resort owners, lenders, developers, hotel chain/management company executives, investment bankers, vacation ownership executives, financial advisors, real estate & financial intermediaries, builders, consultants, lawyers, architects & designers, government tourism officials, and this year – Energi People – the first recruitment specialist to attend!
Networking from dawn to dusk!
CHRIS started with an evening cocktail reception where we networked a lot and enjoyed a few drinks! It was a great opportunity to touch base with some of our clients and make new connections in the Caribbean hotel and resort sector; raising awareness of what we do at Energi.
Many people were interested to hear that our Caribbean desk now offers an end-to-end recruitment solution: sourcing candidates from the start of a new resort project or redevelopment, right through to staffing the resort once it opens.
The following morning started early with breakfast networking and then we hit the conference. We saw some great presentations including some our clients including BCQS and Grace Bay Resorts. They spoke about areas of the Caribbean that are going to be developing and how much money is being spent in the region.
There is a lot of investment in Saint Martin, Bermuda and Turks and Caicos, and we are certainly seeing an increase in demand for candidates to support projects on these islands. Here we are with the president of Saint Martin was at CHRIS (top left below) and Barrett Dill CEP of Bermuda Land Development (top right).
Sarah and I also met one the directors of Rosewood who have a number of resorts in the region as well as elsewhere. We hope that this will be the start of great relationship that could result in some exciting roles for our candidates.
Development of the Year 2018
The final morning was the CHRIS awards ceremony. We were delighted that BCQS International received Development of the Year for their redevelopment project of the Belmond Cap Juluca, Maundays Bay in Anguilla. This iconic hotel was severely damaged during Hurricane Irma, although its signature Greco-Moorish-style villa walls remained intact.
BCQS’s $121 million redesign and expansion, includes five new villas, a new spa and seaside bar, and a complete renovation of existing villas, reopening on time in December 2018.
See you at CHRIS in 2020?
We met lots of great people at CHRIS 2019 and bring lots of useful information and connections back to the Caribbean team in the office. We’re now developing a plan to nurture our new clients and contacts and make sure Energi and our candidates play a part in many of the development projects planned over the next few years.
Our team is going to be extremely busy over the next few months!
As a first for Energi, we highly recommend attending CHRIS and will be back next year for more networking and fact finding. See you there?
