Site Based Mechanical & Electrical Project Manager Role Description

A Mechanical & Electrical Project Manager is to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget, that the project’s objectives are met and that everyone else is doing their job properly. Projects are usually separate to usual day-to-day business activities and require a group of people to work together to achieve a set of specific objectives. The Project Manager will oversee the project to ensure the desired results are achieved, the most efficient resources are used and the different interests involved are satisfied.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Agreeing project objectives
  • Providing advice on the management of projects
  • Organising the various professional people working on the project
  • Carrying out risk assessments and method statements
  • Making sure that all the aims of the project are met
  • Making sure the quality standards are met
  • Using IT systems and site face recognition sign in system to keep track of people and progress
  • Recruiting specialists and sub-contractors
  • Monitoring sub-contractors to ensure guidelines are maintained
  • Overseeing the accounting, costing and billing
  • Attending progress and programme meetings
  • Liaising with the client as required
  • Develop and issue programmes as required using Microsoft Project
  • Identify and capture variations to the main contract
  • Ensure colleagues undertake their roles efficiently
  • Manage a site based Document Controller
  • Manage visiting or site based Quantity Surveyor
  • Prepare and present monthly reviews with Directors
  • Procure on site labour as required
  • Issue weekly progress reports to the client

Qualifications and training required;

  • Minimum HNC in a Building Services related subject
  • CSCS Black Managers Card
  • SMSTS Health & Safety Certificate
  • Minimum 5 years experience within a project managers role
  • Experience of large construction sites
  • Good mechanical installation knowledge, especially pipework systems, drainage and plumbing
  • Experience of Hotels, Schools, Office Shell and Core including Energy Centres
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Project or ASTA Programming
  • Knowledge of Autocad an advantage
