Mechanical Project Manager

An established and growing MEP contractor in Essex are looking for a Mechanical Project Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. The company focus on HVAC works, with this role part of their ‘special works’ division focused on smaller, fast-track projects.

The Mechanical Project Manager

Reporting directly to the Director, you will play a key role managing multiple projects from ‘cradle to grave’. Essentially, you will survey customer/client works required, procure cost-effective sub-contractors, quote competitively, secure the works and ultimately manage the construction phase of works through to handover.

Technically, the role will focus heavily on air conditioning services including chillers, AHU’s, VRV’s and VRF’s. Generally, clients are some of the most recognised firms within the facilities maintenance arena – But there is scope to develop your own customer base alongside this.

The Company

Established for close to 20 years, the company has grown immensely from a family business in small retail unit. They now employ over 45 staff directly, boast a growing turnover in excess of £10M a year and are now set in well-appointed offices in Essex.

Comprised of two divisions (special works and major projects), the company plan to continue with sustained growth over the coming years which will result in merit-based promotion for those eager to take more responsibility and develop their careers.

Experience and Qualifications

At least 3 years supervising mechanical projects

A background in fast track or multiple projects advantageous

Strong overall MEP technical knowledge – particular focus on air conditioning – Chillers, AHU’s, VRV’s and VRF’s

Relevant site qualifications including SMSTS or SSSTS, First Aid at Work and CSCS advantageous

Natural leadership and communication skills

Strong client facing skills – Personally well-presented with sales ability and negotiation skills


The successful candidate can expect to receive an annual salary of up to £60,000 p.a. depending on experience with a company car allowance, a contributory pension, 23 days annual leave and a discretionary bonus.

Medium-term, the company are looking for people to specialise in certain sectors and build teams around them. If you have ambitions to take a senior management role, then this is a very realistic prospect.
